How It Works

How Does Oxygen Treatment Work?

The patient normally lies down in the chamber, on a cushioned mat, with a towel and pillows to be comfortable. They then get given concentrated oxygen up to 10+ times that in normal air through a mask. The chamber will then pressurise in about 5-10 minutes, to allow for the patient’s ears to equalise the pressure.

What is happening in the chamber, is the concentrated oxygen is being pushed into the blood cells. Your circulation now transports this oxygen all over your body, especially to where healing is needed. Did you know you needed oxygen to heal? The pressure you have, allows the oxygen molecules to be pushed through the cell membranes, and then the healing begins!

Once at pressure, the patient stays in the chamber for an hour per session. Then the pressure is released slowly over 5+ minutes. And the patient gets out of the chamber. Once you are out of the chamber the concentrated oxygen has nowhere to go but to stay where it is, and heal you. That’s why you sleep so well. Your body is able to heal itself. It’s like magic!

Hyperbaric Therapy Effects

HBOT helps block the action of harmful bacteria and strengthens the body’s immune system. HBOT can disable the toxins of certain bacteria. It also increases oxygen concentration in the tissues. This helps them resist infection. Concentrated oxygen at a pressure of 1.3 ATA causes an increase in oxygen delivery to injured or hypoxic tissues at a level 400% deeper than our normal blood supply can penetrate. This utilizes the properties of liquids and gases under pressure (Henry’s Law), which causes oxygen (a gas) to become dissolved into fluids such as plasma, cerebrospinal and synovial fluid, creating a systemic saturation of the brain, nervous system, muscles, joints and organs, penetrating difficult to reach regions in an effort to promote healing.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy plays an important role in optimizing athletic performance and recovery of athletic activities. But perhaps, more significantly, it also accelerates recovery from sports-related injuries and surgery, enabling athletes to get back on the field faster.

  •  has a favourable effect on joint mobility
  •  strengthens ligaments and makes them more flexible
  •  reduces muscle tension and fatigue, muscles regain strength

Scientists claim to have successfully reversed the biological ageing process in a group of elderly adults. In a first of a kind study, researchers from Tel Aviv University and the Shamir Medical Center used a form of oxygen therapy to reverse two key indicators of biological ageing: Telomere length and senescent cells accumulation.

  • slows down aging process on a cellular level
  • anti-stress effects
  • has a favourable effect on the appearance of cellulite and scars

Common Uses of HBOT

(Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy)

Exercise and Injury Recovery

HBOT helps athletes at all skill levels recover more quickly from intense workouts and even from various injuries like high ankle sprains, fractures, pulled muscles and Achilles tendinitis.

Cancer Treatments

Hypoxia is common in cancerous tumours. HBOT can help by boosting oxygen saturation, promoting new cell growth and even minimising radiation treatment side-effects.

Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, Stroke

HBOT helps with attention, memory, gross motor function, speech and functional skills. Improving oxygen availability stimulates dormant cells, which allows them to function normally.

Migraines and Cluster Headaches

HBOT can help with acute migraines and cluster headaches as well as prevent future attacks. They are often caused by restrictions in blood flow, and HBOT can even help with many drug side effects.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Most patients affected by autism have high levels of inflammation, poor blood flow and low oxygen delivery. HBOT improves overall brain function, and receptive language, and reduces hyperactivity.

Health and Wellness

Life is dependent on the molecule of oxygen. It, therefore, stands to reason that HBOT is beneficial to our overall health and wellness. MHBOT contributes to the long-term quality of life.
